The Crew

Stonehaven Homes General Contracting services Bainbridge Island

Stonehaven Homes is an employee-owned company with a team of long-serving carpenters and a number of local and reliable sub-contractors who call Bainbridge Island home.  This community-based company was established in 2003 and relies almost entirely on its reputation and word-of-mouth for continuing work and future projects.

Almost 95% of the work undertaken remains on the island, and over half of our projects are for repeat clients.

Stonehaven Homes aim to cultivate long-term relationships with Bainbridge Island residents who need our services, from rough framing to high-end finish carpentry, as well as all other general contracting needs.

Leadership
Matt Olliffe, Owner, Company Principle

Matt is a Licensed General Contractor who moved to Bainbridge Island from London, England in 2002. In addition to meeting clients and managing the business, Matt also enjoys putting on his toolbelt and working with the crew. He has over 30 years of experience in GC work and is a constant “hands-on presence” on all Stonehaven Homes job sites,

Outside of work, Matt and his wife are the parents of three active children. Matt is an avid mountain climber, currently in the process of climbing the 5 big Volcanoes of WA. You may see him around the island kayaking, mountain biking, or hitting the gym.

Eli Wentzel

A huge and enduring asset to this business, Eli joined the Stonehaven team at the age of 17, having completed a 2-year apprenticeship at Job Corps. Since then, he has grown in experience to lead framing and remodel projects for over a decade. Often ahead of schedule, Eli is ready and eager to take on the next project with minimal supervision.

He approaches framing work confidently, accurately, and efficiently and prefers the faster pace and logistical challenges of moving heavy materials on big framing projects over interior trim outs.

Dustin

Dustin is our lead finish carpenter, with an eye for fine details and a full array of trim carpentry tools.
Flexible enough to take on framing, decking, and siding work that is part of every remodel, Dustin mainly specializes in the final trim out, cab sets, and unique finish details.
Dustin has been with Stonehaven for six years and hails from Atlanta, Georgia. Suquamish is his new home.
Dustin “Duzy” loves to fish, kayak, and do DIY projects around his home in his downtime.

Nate

Nathan is an apprentice already completing his 3rd year with Stonehaven Homes. Going from a second carpenter on the job site in the early days, Nate has grown in experience and often works on his own Stonehaven carpentry projects with little supervision. From finish carpentry to heavy framing and seismic retrofits, Nate has put his heart and mind into it all and has a bright future with the Company.

Joe

Like Nate, Joe is reaching the end of his apprenticeship and is starting to take a lead position on our smaller projects. Friendly and approachable, he makes immediate connections with our clients whilst working in and around the customer’s home. Joe can bounce between framing and finish carpentry and often “sets up big remodel projects” with a speedy but surgical demolition and removal for the crew to then move in for reframe.

Joe is a fisherman and, like all true fisherman, has big stories and an even bigger heart.

Mike

Mike is our lead and only tiler/slab and stone guy. He stays busy. Master bathroom shower pans, full entry floors, heat mats, backsplashes, subway, straight set, tile of all shapes and sizes have been laid with precision throughout his long career. In truth, Mike started tiling as a teenager and has stayed in this trade niche for over a decade now.

Methodical, organized, and precise, Mike also has a flair for creativity and approaches his tile work as though it is a piece of artwork. The results are stunning.

Rylan

Rylan is our youngest and latest member of the crew. He is an important component to helping the apprentices and leads move forwards on their projects – clean up, lumber and material organization, power washing and general laboring duties are being quickly replaced by being a cut man for the leads. We are glad to have him onboard and know he will continue to grow in his apprenticeship.

Benjamin Olliffe, Apprentice Carpenter

Ben Olliffe is in his final year at UW completing his Construction management classes and interning for Johanson and Turner in Seattle on projects that include the Light Rail, Aquarium, Park trails, and various vertical structures in downtown Seattle. However, Stonehaven keeps calling, and Ben answers the call for all kinds of carpentry projects. Being the son of a General Contractor, Ben ran heavy equipment in his early teens and pulled on his toolbelt in high school.

Ben was a High School Valedictorian in 2017. His technical ability in the office has streamlined our customer support and services, and he remains an important but part-time team member.
